Hiding your cache, this can be a big decission. Sometimes I will spend more time looking for the right spot to hide my cache than what to hide next designing the cache page and finally the cache name. Usually that is the order that I will start with, haven't you been out caching and said "This would be a great place for a geocache hide". I know that I have more than a hundred times. In keeping with the spirit of this web site "Creative Caching" the place to hide your cache is what I think is where to start.
Most caches that we have found we could see the cache or hiding spot from fifty to one hundred feet away.
The creative cache you can walk right past never knowing it was there then when found you say "COOL what a neat
hide!". We can't even start to describe every hiding spot so we will give you some guidelines to go by when designing
and hiding your cache.
* Don't hide a cache in what looks like a good or should I say normal looking hiding spot. That is the first place that
they will look for it. I will usually place my cache near maybe 30-40 feet or more from that typical hiding spot.
* Some caches the creativity is the beautiful location where your cache is hidden. If you are luckey enough to find that location you got it made. I'm a photographer and my moto is "leave only footprints and take only pictures" and that
great location is the ultimate goal of geocaching.
* Hide your cache in the most natural way as possible. Use something that would naturally or normally would be there.
Look at the total area and pay carefull attention to the surroundings. EXAMPLE: Don't put your cache under a hollowed
out Oak log if there are NO Oak trees around and if there are NO cut wood lying around then why is this one piece of
cut fire wood here? It is so important that your cache hide fits in with the area that it is hid in.
* If you make a creative cache container like the Monkey Puzzle shown in our Creative Containers page it's a different
story. I hid mine good but not so hard that it would be a difficult hide it's opening it and signing the log that is the trick.
So I would call it a Creative Cache Hide with the puzzle that they have to solve to sign the log.So there are a lot of ways
to create a creative hide they just take a little more time and thought to your geocache. I have one that I have been working on for a couple mounths now and I don't even have the cache location choosen yet. Creative Cache Hides do
take a little time to create weather it is the container or the hiding location, just take your time and the cache find logs
that you will get is all worth the effort. Happy Caching!
